who read or are in the process of reading the fictional work Pleng's Song, by Patrick Maher. The Big Questions
To what lengths will one go in order to survive?
How can one prepare for and survive a natural disaster? |
Who is Pleng?Pleng is a Thai girl who lives a privileged life in Bangkok and goes to a recognized international school. Her father is a prominent business man and her mom suffers from a serious drinking problem. Like many other kids, Pleng struggles in her puberty years, trying to fit her surroundings.
Have you heard this story before? Well, there are certainly many Plengs out there. Our Pleng, however, a fictional character created by American author and teacher Patrick Maher, has to deal with a fairly more serious problem: the tragedy of the floods that devastated Thailand in late 2011. Abandoned by her dad hours before the floods hit her home, Pleng needs to act fast. If she stays, chances are she will get trapped by a mean motorcycle taxi driver who's been haunting her. If she runs, she'll face the unforgiving hardness of the streets and waters splashing around Thailand. |
